Bike To Parkview Field This Sunday!

Ride Your Bike To The Ballpark On May 20th

Continuing with local efforts to “ride your drive,” the Fort Wayne TinCaps in partnership with the City of Fort Wayne, Parkview Trauma Center, and Fort Wayne Trails, encourage people attending the game Sunday, May 20 to bike to Parkview Field. Additional bike parking will be made available and the first 50 riders will receive a commemorative backpack, compliments of Parkview Trauma Center. Bike helmets will also be available at cost at the game.

“With May being National Bicycle Month, the City has been encouraging people of all ages to ‘ride their drive’ by choosing to use a bike as a form of transportation,” stated Fort Wayne Mayor, Tom Henry. “Short-distance trips to work, a library branch or Parkview Field are perfect for using a bike. I encourage families to bike to the ballpark May 20. This partnership with Parkview Trauma to encourage drivers and cyclists to share the road is important for the health and safety of our community.”

“Biking to Parkview Field has always been a viable option,” said Michael Limmer, TinCaps Vice President of Marketing. “We’ve seen an increasing number of fans utilize the trails and bike-friendly lanes downtown to make their way to the ballpark. This event is yet another opportunity to raise awareness about Fort Wayne’s increasing accommodations for all levels of bike enthusiasts.”

“Parkview is pleased to be part of a partnership with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, City of Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne Trails that encourages safety and education. We want cyclists and motorists to be as safe as possible and for the community to be aware that unsafe cycling and driving practices can result in traumatic injuries,” said Lisa Hollister, program manager, Parkview Trauma Centers. “Promoting the importance of cycling and motorist safety complements Parkview’s mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.”

Volunteers from Fort Wayne Trails are going to operate a free bike parking service called Bike Valet in order to accommodate the additional bicycles. Bike Valet will open at 2:00pm Sunday through an hour after the game. A portion of the Green parking lot on Brackenridge will be reserved for the Bike Valet with event-style bike racks and will be monitored throughout the game.

Tickets are required to attend Sunday’s game against the Bowling Green Hot Rods and available for purchase for via the Parkview Field ticket office, online at TinCaps.com or by calling 482-6400.
