Get Your Tickets Now! Tincaps Opening Night Expected To Sellout

Opening Night Sellout Expected

Fort Wayne TinCaps president Mike Nutter spent the last three days working on some new-and-improved ways to sell beer and ice cream at the ballpark.

Parkview Field and the TinCaps are ready for the thirsty boys and girls of summer.

“I hope people still want beer and ice cream,” Nutter said, jokingly, about adding a larger bar area for the refreshments.

He needn’t worry. The TinCaps had just a few standing-room-only tickets available for the season opener at 7:05 on Thursday night at Parkview Field. People are ready for their baseball, beer and ice cream.

This will mark the fourth season at Parkview Field, and the TinCaps are 3-0 in season openers since the franchise moved downtown. Nutter said he pointed out to tonight’s starting pitcher Cody Hebner that last year’s starter, Keyvius Sampson, threw six perfect innings in the opener. But no pressure.

This year’s TInCaps feature five players ranked among the Top 30 San Diego Padres prospects by Baseball America: catcher Austin Hedges (ranked fifth), pitcher Joe Ross (ninth), infielder Jace Peterson (17th), outfielder Donavan Tate (22nd) and pitcher Adys Portillo (26th).

This could be the TinCaps’ most-promising roster since the team went wire-to-wire for the Midwest League championship in 2009.

“When you start looking at five of the top 30 prospects and those kinds of things from people who judge talent, I think that’s tremendous,” Nutter said.

“I can’t wait to see a guy like Donavan Tate, who’s maybe not as highly regarded as last year, but he’s hungry and I think he’ll have a great year. I’m excited to see how he does.”

The TinCaps plan the usual in-game promotions throughout the summer, including Myron Noodleman, BirkZerk and Jake the Diamond Dog. The first fireworks show will be after tonight’s game.
