How The Legacy Fund Will Forever Change Downtown

The Downtown Landscape Has Been In A Constant State of Growth, Change and Renovation Recently…

but with the recent announcements from Indiana Tech, private industry, and now the city regarding the Legacy Fund, progress and change is about to move to another level.   The details have yet to be released, but a few days back we were given a general idea of how the Light Lease “Legacy” money would be spent.  Just focusing on downtown, here is what you can expect…

Downtown Opportunity Fund ($11 Million)

Matching challenge grant for the Downtown Development ($1 Million)

Downtown Opportunity Fund for property acquisition and incentive programs ($10 Million)

Higher Education ($9 Million)

A 2-to-1 matching challenge grant to University of St. Francis toward the creation of a downtown campus, specifically the redevelopment of the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber Building as well as the USF Performing Arts Center (former Scottish Rite) ($4 Million)

A set-aside matching grant program to encourage colleges and universities to create downtown footprints ($5 Million)

Riverfront Development Master Plan ($10.5 Million)
Comprehensive Riverfront Master Plan ($.5 Million)
River Development Agency for the development and execution of a comprehensive Riverfront Master Plan ($10 Million)

Downtown Beautification ($2 Million)
Improvements to the Wells Street Bridge (creative painting and lighting installations)
Refurbishment of railroad overpasses and underpasses (creative painting and lighting installations)
